CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Louisville’s Jayden Ulrich rewrote the Atlantic Coast Conference’s record books over the weekend to lead the conference’s Outdoor Track and Field Performers of the Week. Ulrich set a new mark for the farthest women’s discus throw in ACC history, launching a throw of 64.29 meters to earn ACC Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week honors.
Five student-athletes from five ACC institutions won the remaining five weekly awards. Virginia Tech’s Judson Lincoln IV and Florida State’s Alexendra Webster were named the ACC’s Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track Athletes of the Week, respectively. Duke’s Aimar Palma Simo joined Ulrich as the ACC Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week. Clemson’s Nate Rayan and North Carolina’s Spencer Young were named the league’s Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Rookies of the Week, respectively.
ACC Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
Judson Lincoln IV, So., Virginia Tech, Columbia, Md.
Lincoln clocked a personal-best time of 45.20 in the 400-meters at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational over the weekend, marking the top time in the ACC this season. The sophomore’s mark also ranks second in the East Region and third in the country. The Columbia, Maryland, native recorded the second-fastest time in Virginia Tech history in the event and met the automatic qualifying standards for the 2024 United States Olympic Team trials in June.
ACC Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
Alexandra Webster, Sr., Florida State, The Woodlands, Texas
Webster competed with some of the best in the country at the Tom Jones Invitational this past weekend in the 100-meter hurdles invite. Webster placed third, clocking a personal-best time of 12.77 seconds. Additionally, Webster moved up three spots on the Seminoles’ all-time top 10 list, currently sitting at No. 2 all-time in Florida State history.
ACC Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week
Aimar Palma Simo, Gr., Duke, Castellon, Spain
Competing in the Duke Invite, Palma Simo collected his second win of the outdoor season, setting a program record in the hammer throw. The native of Castellon, Spain, launched the hammer 71.48m (234’ 6”), besting his previous school record by nearly five feet. Palma Simo’s mark leads the ACC this season and ranks 10th in the country.
ACC Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week
Jayden Ulrich, Jr., Louisville, East Alton, Ill.
Ulrich set the ACC record on her way to winning the discus throw at the Pacific Coast Invitational with an NCAA-leading mark of 64.29m (210’ 11”). The heave stands as the eighth-farthest throw in NCAA history, while ranking the junior ninth in the world and fourth among American athletes in the event during the 2024 season. The mark also bested her own school record of 60.16m, set two weeks ago at the Texas Relays by over four meters. The East Alton, Illinois, native doubled back two days later to finish as the runner-up in the event at the Beach Invitational with a final mark of 58.24m (190-9).
ACC Men’s Outdoor Freshman of the Week
Nate Rayan, Fr., Clemson, Fanwood, N.J.
At the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational, Rayan clocked a personal-best time of 13.97 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles. The mark was good for a first-place finish in the meet and ranks as the second-fastest time among ACC freshmen this season.
ACC Women’s Outdoor Freshman of the Week
Spencer Young, Fr., North Carolina, Los Angeles, Calif.
Young secured second place in the javelin throw at the Duke Invite with a personal-best of 46.01 meters. Her throw ranks as the third-best distance so far in the ACC this season. The Los Angeles, California, native joins the Tar Heel’s all-time list for the javelin, making her debut at ninth.
