THREE-PEAT!!! Florida State Men Capture NCAA Crown

DES MOINES, Iowa - With the team's third national championship on the line, there was no one else the Florida State men's track & field team would have wanted in the blocks than senior All-American Walter Dix.

Ten points shy of a guaranteed tie and 11 points out of their third-consecutive national victory, the Seminoles needed two things to happen in the men's 200m dash: sophomore Charles Clark needed to finish the race, and Dix needed to win it all.

They got both.

Dix flew around the north bend of the track at Drake Stadium and crossed the line in 20.40, four-hundredths of a second ahead of his nearest competition, giving him his third consecutive outdoor victory in the 200m. The win also gave Dix, the most decorated runner in Florida State history, his 18th All-American honor and his eighth national championship.

Clark, still trying to recover from an injury in the 200m semifinals on Thursday night, may actually have had the more difficult task of the two. But the sophomore wasn't about to let his team down, and so he came drifting across the finish line to earn the one point Florida State needed to seal their triple crown.

Clemson's Mamona Finishes 10th in Triple Jump at NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

DES MOINES, Iowa - Clemson sophomore Patricia Mamona finished in 10th place in the triple jump on Saturday at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The meet was held at Drake Stadium on the Drake University campus.

Mamona's 10th-place showing was her best-ever performance in a national championship meet. She was 11th at last year's NCAA Outdoor Championships, then 12th earlier this season at the indoor nationals in Fayetteville, Ark.

She did not improve on her performance from Friday's qualifying round, but recorded a solid jump of 43'4.25" on her second attempt. She was just nine centimeters short of qualifying for three additional jumps Saturday, which would have given her a better shot at improving to possibly All-America status.

Georgia Tech's Moss, Lemons Earn All-American Honors on Final Day of NCAA Championships

DES MOINES, Iowa - Seniors Shantia Moss and James Lemons II earned All-American honors to lead Georgia Tech on the final day of the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Drake Stadium.

Moss battled strong winds to cross the line third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.15 to earn her second career All-American honor in the outdoor hurdles event. Moss, who placed third at the 2008 NCAA Indoor Championships in the 60-meter hurdles, closes out her career as a four-time All-American.

Lemons, a native of Atlanta, Ga., finished fifth in the men's triple jump with a mark of 54 feet, 1 ¼ inches to earn his first career outdoor All-American honor. Lemons concludes a tremendous senior season that includes All-American honors in both the indoor triple jump and long jump.

Tar Heels Wrap Up Competition At NCAAs

DES MOINES, Iowa - The North Carolina men's track and field team picked up another strong performance from a freshman on Saturday at the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa as Austin Davis cleared a personal-best 53-3 in the triple jump to finish eighth. Davis' point pushed the Tar Heel total to five to put Carolina in a tie for 42nd overall, while the women closed out the 2008 NCAA Championships in a tie for 46th.

Brie Felnagle was also in action on Saturday as she competed in the 1500-meter run. The Tacoma, Wash. native placed ninth in the event running a 4:17.76. As a result of her ninth-place finish Felnagle earned her seventh All-America honor of her career.

Davis joined Felnagle with an All-America plaudit of his own thanks to his eighth-place showing in the triple jump. Two athletes from the men's and three from the women's squads earned All-America honors at the NCAA Championships. Joining Felnagle and Davis were high jumpers Donte Nall and Patience Coleman along with hurdler LaToya James.

Jesien Wraps up Competition at NCAAs for Cavaliers

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Junior Andrew Jesien wrapped up the Cavaliers' competition at the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Championships on Saturday with a 13th place finish in the 1500 meters. Jesien was the first Virginia competitor since John Hinton was a three-time All-American in the event in 1985 to race in the finals of the 1500m finals. Jesien's time of 3:45.30 was less than two seconds off of his personal-best.

"The fact that Andrew made the finals is a great achievement in itself," assistant coach Jason Dunn said. "He's had a great season and although we would have liked to have seen him finish with All-America status, he had a great finish to a strong season and we're extremely proud of his accomplishments."

The junior was the last Cavalier to compete at the 2008 outdoor championships, which saw junior Yemi Ayeni and senior Billie-Jo Grant earn All-American honors. Jesien wraps up his season as the ACC Champion in the 1500m and he earned all-region honors in the event at the NCAA East Region Championships.

Virginia Tech's Clickett Concludes NCAAs With All-America Performance

DES MOINES, Iowa - Virginia Tech throwers Justin Clickett and Brittany Pryor wrapped up the Hokie track and field team's season on Saturday by competing in the shot put events at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Drake Stadium.

Clickett (r-Sr., Union City, Pa.) became the seventh Hokie to collect All-America honors by finishing sixth in the men's flight with a toss of 60 feet, 9.25 inches (18.52 meters). It was the fourth All-America performance of Clickett's career, and he advanced to the nationals after the winning the event at the NCAA East Regional. His sixth-place finish earned three points for the Tech men's team, giving the Hokies a final total of 13.33 points that earned them a 20th-place team ranking.

Pryor (r-Jr., Niagara Falls, N.Y.), who earned All-America honors on Friday with a seventh-place finish in the hammer throw, placed 11th in the shot put event on Saturday with a heave of 51-6.25 (15.70 meters). The Virginia Tech women concluded the meet with eight team points and in a 31st-place tie with 10 other teams.
