![]() Seven ACC Student-Athletes Earn All-America Honors by WomensLax.com
May 28, 2008 Maryland's Dobbie, Kasper Named WomensLax.com All-Americans COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Senior midfielders Dana Dobbie and Kelly Kasper have been named WomensLax.com All-Americans and Dobbie was tabbed the Midfielder of the Year, announced May 27. The senior duo is also up for the Tewaaraton Trophy and was already named to the IWLCA All-South Region First Team. Dobbie, who is also a finalist for the Tewaaraton Trophy, led the country this season in draw controls with 126 which is a new NCAA single-season record and she averaged 6.00 per outing. The Guelph, Ontario product led the Atlantic Coast Conference in goals (70), goals per game (3.33), and draw controls. She was also second in points per game (4.00) behind Kasper. Her goals and goals per game numbers ranked fifth and 15th in the country, respectively. Kasper, who is already a two-time All-American and a Tewaaraton finalist with Dobbie, led the Terps with 87 points on 43 goals and 44 assists. Her 44 assists this year rank fifth all-time at Maryland in a single season. She was also second on the team with 52 draw controls and 28 caused turnovers. Kasper had 13 games with multiple assists this season.
DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke women's lacrosse earned its first handful of postseason awards, starting with the NCAA All-Tournament team and the Womenslax.com 2008 season honors. Junior attacker Carolyn Davis and sophomore midfielder Lindsay Gilbride were named to the 2008 NCAA All-Tournament team for their efforts in the Blue Devils' national semifinal game, announced late Sunday at the conclusion of the national championship game. Davis also earned Womenslax.com All-America accolades, while head coach Kerstin Kimel took home the Coach of the Year and midfielder Emma Hamm was named the Rookie of the Year. Davis and Gilbride were the go-to players for Duke in the national semifinal loss to Penn, 9-8, in overtime on May 23. Davis tallied five goals on just six shots, which led all scorers in the game and tied a Blue Devil record for most goals in an NCAA Tournament match. She also picked up three draw controls in the game. Gilbride found the back of the net twice on free-position shots in coming off of the bench. Her goal with one minute left remaining in regulation tied the game at 8-8 and sent it into overtime. Gilbride also picked up one ground ball and secured one draw control.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - University of North Carolina women's lacrosse player Amber Falcone (Westminster, Md.) has earned first-team All-America honors from WomensLax.com, the website announced on Tuesday. Falcone, a junior defender, is one of five Atlantic Coast Conference players on the team. ACC players joining Falcone on the 2008 WomensLax.com All-America Team are Carolyn Davis (Duke), Dana Dobbie (Maryland), Kelly Kasper (Maryland) and Ashley McCulloch (Virginia). Other members of the squad include Hillary Bowen (Northwestern), Jillian Byers (Notre Dame), Sarah Dalton (Boston University), Ali DeLuca (Penn), Christina Dove (Syracuse), Christy Finch (Northwestern), Holly McGarvie (Princeton), Hannah Nielsen (Northwestern), Hilary Renna (Penn), Katie Rowan (Syracuse) and Sarah Waxman (Penn).
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Womenslacrosse.com has announced its 2008 All-Americans, with senior defender Claire Bordley earning a first-team nod, while senior goalkeeper Kendall McBrearty and junior Ashley McCulloch were named to the second-team. Freshman defender Liz Downs was selected to the All-Rookie Team. The honors mark a first for each Cavalier. Bordley was Virginia's top mark-up defender this year. She recently earned All-South Region honors and following the conclusion of the regular season, was named to the All-ACC Team. McBrearty was recently honored as the top goalie in the region and the ACC this season, and is now collecting her first All-America honor. The two-time MVP of the ACC Tournament led the league in GAA and save percentage all season, in addition to being ranked third and sixth nationally in the categories, respectively. McCulloch anchored Virginia's offense this season. She put up a team-best 58 points by dishing out a team-high 34 assists with 24 goals.
