GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) - The 2012-13 All-ACC Women's Basketball Teams as selected by the Blue Ribbon Panel and the league's 12 head coaches were announced Monday by Atlantic Coast Conference Commissioner John Swofford.
The Blue Ribbon Panel First and Second Teams were voted on by the league's Blue Ribbon Panel, which consists of national and local media members, as well as school representatives, while the Head Coaches Honors consist of votes from the league's head coaches.
Headlining the All-ACC First Team as voted on by the Blue Ribbon Panel are three student-athletes who earned repeat first-team honors from the 2011-12 season. Duke's Chelsea Gray and Elizabeth Williams and Maryland's Alyssa Thomas are all repeat All-ACC First Team selections from a season ago.
Florida State placed the most representatives, three, on the All-ACC First Team as Alexa Deluzio, Leonor Rodriguez and Natasha Howard each earned honors. Howard was an All-ACC Third Team selection last season and an All-Freshman Team selection in 2011.
Georgia Tech's Tyaunna Marshall, an All-ACC Second Team selection in 2012 and All-Freshman Team honoree in 2011; Miami's Morgan Stroman, an All-ACC Second Team selection in 2011; North Carolina's Tierra Ruffin-Pratt; and Virginia's Ataira Franklin, a Honorable Mention All-ACC honoree in 2012 and an All-Freshman Team selection in 2011, were also named to the All-ACC First Team as selected by the Blue Ribbon Panel.
Nine student-athletes who were selected by the Blue Ribbon Panel also earned All-ACC First Team recognition as chosen by the head coaches. In addition to Gray, Williams, Deluizio, Rodriguez, Marshall, Thomas, Hawkins, Stroman and Ruffin-Pratt, Miami's Stefanie Yderstrom, North Carolina's Xylina McDaniel and NC State's Marissa Kastanek were also selected to the Head Coaches' All-ACC First Team.
McDaniel is the only freshman to be selected on an All-ACC First Team.
The Seminoles' Chasity Clayton was chosen as the league's Sixth Player of the Year by vote of the head coaches. Clayton averaged 10.2 points per game for Florida State who earned the league's fourth seed in the ACC Women's Basketball Tournament which gets underway on Thursday, March 7.
The ACC All-Freshman Teams and Rookie of the Year as selected by both the Blue Ribbon Panel and the Head Coaches will be announced Tuesday, March 5.
The 36th Annual ACC Women's Basketball Tournament tips off at 11 a.m. ET on Thursday, March 7, and will conclude with a 2 p.m. championship contest on Sunday, March 10. The title game will be televised on ESPN2. All 10 games on Thursday, Friday and Saturday will be broadcast on the league's regional sports network (RSN).
