GREENSBORO, N.C. – Five Atlantic Coast Conference men’s soccer players and two women have been named semifinalists for the 2017 MAC Hermann Trophy announced today by United Soccer Coaches.
Among the 15 men’s semifinalists are Louisville’s Tim Kubel, North Carolina’s Cam Lindley and Alan Winn, Notre Dame’s Jon Gallagher, and Wake Forest’s Jon Bakero. The five semifinalists from the ACC are the most from any league. Bakero was voted as the ACC Offensive Player of the Year and Lindley was named the ACC Midfielder of the Year, while all five earned All-ACC First Team Honors.
On the women’s side, Duke’s Imani Dorsey and Rebecca Quinn are listed. Dorsey was named the league’s Offensive Player of the Year, while Quinn collected ACC Midfielder of the Year honors.
The MAC Hermann Trophy, the most coveted individual honor in NCAA Division I soccer, has been awarded annually since 1967. ACC men have claimed the honor 18 times, including last year’s winner Ian Harkes of Wake Forest. The women have won it 12 times.
Three men’s finalists and three women’s finalists will be named on December 8 in conjunction with the Men’s College Cup semifinals in Philadelphia. The 2017 MAC Hermann Trophy banquet will be held at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on January 5, 2018 to formally announce this year’s winners.
