GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech’s Joey Bart has been voted the ACC Baseball Player of the Week, while Florida State’s Tyler Holton was selected as Pitcher of the Week.
ACC weekly honors are determined by a vote of a select media panel. This is the second straight award for Holton, and the first of Bart’s career.
Starting all four games behind the plate, Bart led the Yellow Jackets to a 3-1 record on the week. He blasted five home runs over the four-game span, hitting at least one home run in every game and posting his first multi-home run game on Saturday in the 10-2 win over Belmont. Bart hit .529 overall for the week, going 9-for-17, and recorded a 1.471 slugging percentage. His on base percentage was .600, as he scored eight runs and drove in 11 RBI in Tech’s four games on the week.
The sophomore catcher from Buford, Georgia, was also 1-for-1 in the stolen bases, had three multi-hit games, three multi-RBI games and reached base safely in all four games. Behind the plate, Bart recorded 37 putouts, did not commit an error nor did he have a single baserunner try to steal on him.
The reigning ACC Co-Pitcher of the Week, Holton recorded 13 of his 18 outs via strikeout against Oakland Saturday, allowing just one runner to reach second and third base. The sophomore from Tallahassee, Florida, set a career-high for strikeouts for the second straight week (11 against Samford on 2/25), and his 13 are the most for a Seminole pitcher since 2013. On the season, Holton has a 0.47 ERA (1 ER in 19.0 innings) and has a 32-4 strikeout-to-walk ratio. His 32 strikeouts are the most in the conference this season.
Holton is the first player to repeat as ACC Pitcher of the Week since Maryland’s Jake Stinnett in 2014.
