GREENSBORO, N.C. – Louisville’s Tim Kubel has been named ACC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Clemson’s Patrick Bunk-Andersen was tabbed as Defensive Player of the Week.
Kubel scored a pair of game-winning goals for No. 11 Louisville, which remained unbeaten with two victories last week. A senior defender from Stuttgart, Germany, Kubel started the week with the lone goal in Monday’s match against No. 25 Butler, connecting in the 39th minute on a sliding attempt from 18 yards away to lift the Cardinals to a 1-0 victory against the Bulldogs. Four days later, the All-American delivered on a penalty kick in the 47th minute of Louisville’s 1-0 triumph at Georgia State on Friday night. With his first two goals of the season, Kubel moved into ninth in career goals at Louisville with 17 while six of those are game-winners.
Bunk-Andersen played a major role in No. 5 Clemson’s defense limiting South Carolina’s offense to only three shots—only one in the first half that he played the entirety of—in a 4-1 win over the in-state rivals. The junior from Hvidovre, Denmark, also scored his first goal of the season, a header off a Harrison Kurtz corner kick that put Clemson up by two goals with just under 25 minutes remaining in the contest and solidified the Tigers handing the Gamecocks their first loss of the season.
