Howard Paces Orange Past Panthers
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (cuse.com) – Junior Frank Howard posted 18 points, seven rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals to lead Syracuse (13-6, 2-4 ACC) to a 59-45 victory over Pittsburgh (8-11, 0-6 ACC) Tuesday night in the Carrier Dome. The win snaps the Orange's four-game losing streak.
Sophomore Tyus Battle added 15 points, freshman Oshae Brissett finished with 10 points and five boards and junior Paschal Chukwu recorded eight points and eight rebounds.
Numbers of Note
Syracuse shot 22-of-51 (43.1 percent) from the floor and 10-of-12 (83.3 percent) from the free throw line while holding the Panthers to 14-of-40 (35.0 percent) from the floor. The Orange won the battle in the paint, outscoring Pittsburgh 28-12.
Pitt's Parker Stewart finished the game with 23 points for the Panthers. He shot 8-of-14 from the floor and 7-of-13 from beyond the arc. Stewart compiled more than half on the Pittsburgh points (51.1 percent).

Spalding scores 23, Louisville beats Notre Dame 82-78 in 2OT
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) - Junior Ray Spalding scored a career-high 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, senior Quentin Snider matched a career high with 22 points and Louisville pulled off an 82-78 double-overtime win over Notre Dame on Tuesday night.
The victory by the Cardinals (14-4, 4-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) spoiled the return of Matt Farrell for the Irish (13-6, 3-3) in front of a sellout crowd.
Farrell, who missed the previous three games with an ankle sprain, scored 23 points and dealt eight assists. He went just 2 of 14 from the field (both 3-pointers) after halftime.
Martinas Geben, highlighted by some dominant play in the extra sessions, finished with career highs of 22 points and 17 rebounds for the Irish. He was 10 of 13 from the field.
Farrell missed a 3-pointer from the left corner as regulation expired and was off on a possible game-winning shot with 2.2 seconds left in the first OT.
Louisville, a game behind 5-0 Virginia in the ACC, won at Notre Dame for the first time since February 1994, ending a streak of six straight losses at Purcell Pavilion.

No. 15 North Carolina holds off No. 20 Clemson 87-79
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) - Graduate transfer Cameron Johnson scored a season-high 21 points to help No. 15 North Carolina hold off No. 20 Clemson 87-79 on Tuesday night, preserving its perfect all-time home record against the Tigers.
Joel Berry II scored 14 of his 17 after halftime for the Tar Heels (15-4, 4-2 Atlantic Coast Conference), who hung on despite seeing most of an 18-point lead erased by Clemson's torrid second-half shooting.
Luke Maye added 11 points while playing with a stitched-up cut on his nose suffered shortly before halftime.
The win improved the Tar Heels to 59-0 all-time at home against Clemson, including 28-0 in the Smith Center. It's the longest home winning streak against a single opponent in NCAA history.
Marcquise Reed scored 21 points for the Tigers (15-3, 4-2), who made 15 of 16 shots out of halftime and thrice closed within two points in the final 10 minutes.
