Boston College's Sweeney Named Mackey Award Semifinalist

New York – Boston College's Tommy Sweeney has been named one of eight semifinalists for the John Mackey Award, which is presented annually to the nation's top tight end.  
 
Sweeney leads the Eagles with 26 receptions and is third on the team with 237 receiving yards. He has scored three touchdowns; one of four players with three or more on BC this season. Sweeney is one of six tight ends used in Boston College’s 12-personnel. He has been on the field for 585 offensive snaps; accounting for 78% of the Eagles’ plays this season.
 
Last season, Sweeney earned All-ACC Third Team with 36 catches for 512 yards and four touchdowns. In his career, Sweeney sixth all-time at BC in receptions by a tight end with 93 catches. He has totaled 1,170 yards and 10 touchdowns in his BC career.

The 2018 John Mackey recipient will be announced on December 5, 2018 and then presented live on December 6, 2018 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.
