Florida State Falls to No. 11 Florida

WATCH: FSU RB Cam Akers Makes Incredible One-Handed TD Catch vs. Florida

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – Despite an uneven half in which they were heavily out-gained, the Florida State Seminoles went into halftime against Florida trailing only by five and well within striking distance of an upset.

The Gators then unleashed a stunning, second-half onslaught and quickly pulled away.

Paced by three touchdown passes from quarterback Feleipe Franks, No. 13 UF scored three touchdowns at the end of their first four second half possessions on the way to a 41-14 victory over the Seminoles in front of 71,953 fans at Doak Campbell Stadium.

Florida’s victory brings about a series of firsts, all of them painful for FSU:
• Florida’s first win in the series since 2012. Florida State had been riding a school-record five straight victories over the Gators.
• FSU’s first bowl-less season since 1981. The Seminoles’ NCAA-record 36-year bowl streak is over.
• Florida State’s first sub-.500 season since 1976, coach Bobby Bowden’s first year in Tallahassee.

Florida out-gained FSU, 536-293 and averaged more than five yards per carry in a 282-154 rushing disparity.

The Seminoles, meanwhile, showed positive flashes, but, as has been the case often this season, were undone by penalty flags and turnovers.

Quarterback Deondre Francois accounted for 195 total yards and two touchdowns (one passing, one rushing), but also committed three turnovers.

And FSU committed 10 penalties (60 yards), several of which came in crucial moments.
With the Seminoles trailing 10-0 in the second quarter, an illegal-shift flag on receiver Tamorrion Terry wiped out a 70-yard touchdown pass from Francois to Cam Akers.

Later in the third quarter, an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty issued to Stanford Samuels III moved the chains after a third-down stop and gave UF a fresh set of downs inside the Seminoles’ 5-yard line.

Two plays later, the Gators were in the end zone for a touchdown that made it 20-7.
