ACC BOWL NOTES
ACC Has League-Record 11 Bowl Teams
- The ACC matched its league record with 11 bowl teams this season, including Clemson (13-0), NC State (9-3), Syracuse (9-3), Boston College (7-5), Duke (7-5), Georgia Tech (7-5), Miami (7-5), Virginia (7-5), Pitt (7-6), Virginia Tech (6-6) and Wake Forest (6-6). The 11 bowls teams tie for the most among any conference and matches the ACC's record set in 2016.
ACC is the Only Conference
- The ACC is the only conference to send every team to at least one bowl game over the last three seasons. In addtition, the ACC is tied for the most bowl bids (32) among all conferences over the last three years (11 in 2016, 10 in 2017, 11 in 2018).
- Since 2013, the ACC is second among all conferences with 65 postseason appearances, has the second-best record of any conference in the BCS, New Year’s Six and CFP games, and is tied for the most national championships (Florida State in 2013, Clemson in 2016).
Team-by-Team Bowl Quick Hits
- Boston College is playing in the SERVPRO First Responders Bowl vs. Boise State on Dec. 26. Head coach Steve Addazio has led the Eagles to five bowls in his first six years, the only head coach in BC history to do so.
- No. 2 Clemson will face No. 3 Notre Dame in the CFP Semifinal at the Goodyear Cotton Bowl on Dec. 29. The Tigers are playing in the postseason for 14th consecutive year and are in the CFP for the fifth straight season.
- Duke, which takes on Temple in the Walk-On's Independence Bowl on Dec. 27, is playing in the postseason for the sixth time in the last seven years.
- Georgia Tech's Quick Lane Bowl appearance vs. Minnesota on Dec. 26 will be Paul Johnson’s final game as head coach of the Yellow Jackets. Johnson's 189 career victories rank fourth among active NCAA Division I FBS head coaches.
- In a rematch of last season's Capital One Orange Bowl, Miami faces Wisconsin in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl on Dec. 27. This is the Hurricanes' sixth consecutive bowl game.
- Seeking a 10-win season, NC State faces No. 19 Texas A&M in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl on Dec. 31. It is the fifth bowl game in head coach Dave Doeren's six years with the Wolfpack.
- Pitt, which played a nation's best 11 bowl eligible teams this season, will face Stanford in the Hyundai Sun Bowl on Dec. 31. According to the NCAA, the Panthers have faced the nation's second-most difficult schedule with games against current CFP Top 25 teams Clemson (No. 2), Notre Dame (No. 3), UCF (No. 8) and Penn State (No. 12).
- Syracuse is playing in a bowl game for the first time since 2013. The 20th-ranked Orange face No. 16 West Virginia in the Camping World Bowl on Dec. 28.
- Virginia, which is playing in the Belk Bowl vs. South Carolina on Dec. 29, is in a bowl game in back-to-back years for the first time in 14 seasons, when the Cavaliers went to bowl games in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005.
- Virginia Tech has the nation's longest active bowl streak at 26. The Hokies earned a bid to the Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman on Dec. 31 after winning back-to-back games to close out the 2018 regular season, including a win over Virginia in overtime. The Hokies will face Cincinnati in Annapolis, Md.
- Wake Forest is playing in a bowl game for the third consecutive season, matching the longest streak in school history. The Deacons take on Memphis in the Birmingham Bowl on Dec. 22.
Most Teams Ranked in ACC history
- A league-record 10 ACC teams have been ranked this year in the AP Top 25 poll, including Boston College, Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Miami, NC State, Pitt, Syracuse, Virginia and Virginia Tech. The previous ACC record for most teams ranked in a season was nine in 2008.
- The 10 ranked teams are tied among all conferences. 10 - ACC; 10 - SEC; 9 - Pac 12; 7 - Big 12; 7 - Big Ten
- Clemson has been ranked in 67 consecutive AP polls, including 64 in the top 10.
- Prior to this year, the Orange had not appeared in the top 25 since the final poll of the 2001 season. That year, the Orange finished 10-3 and defeated Kansas State 26-3 in the Insight.com Bowl. Syracuse's No. 12 ranking on Nov. 11 was the highest ranking for the Orange since 1998, when SU was No. 11 on Sept. 28.
Most Wins In Four-Year Period
- Clemson's 53 wins since 2015 are an ACC record for victories in a four-year period. The Tigers posted their 53rd win in the 2018 Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship Game. In addition, Clemson has now won 16 in the last four years against ranked team, which is the fourth-best mark in that span.

Highest Scoring season in ACC History
- The 2018 season is the highest scoring year in league history. ACC teams are averaging 30.8 points per game this year, which ranks ahead of the 2016 season, when the league scoring average was 30.7.

ACC Claims Campbell Trophy Again
- Clemson defensive tackle Christian Wilkins won the 2018 William V. Campbell Trophy, which is presented annually by the National Football Foundation and the College Football Hall of Fame to the best football scholar-athlete in the nation. NC State quarterback Ryan Finley was also a finalist.
- Wilkins is the second consecutive winner from the ACC and third in the last five years. Virginia linebacker Micah Kiser won the award last season and Duke's David Helton was the 2014 winner.
National Award Winners
- NC State's Garrett Bradbury was named the 2018 Rimington Trophy winner as the nation's most outstanding center. Bradbury was also a consensus first-team All-America.
- Syracuse kicker Andre Szmyt won the 2018 Lou Groza Award presented by the Orange Bowl. The award honors the nation's most outstanding place-kicker. Szmyt is the sixth kicker from the ACC and first from Syracuse to win the award. Szmyt was a unanimous first-team All-America.
- Clemson’s Clelin Ferrell was named the 2018 Ted Hendricks Award winner as the nation’s top defensive end.
- Clemson’s Hunter Renfrow was named the winner of the Burlsworth Trophy, which is given to the nation’s most outstanding player who began his career as a walk-on.
