GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Paris Kea scored 28 points to help North Carolina beat Boston College 69-64 in Wednesday's first round of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament.
Freshman Janelle Bailey added 16 points and 13 rebounds for the 12th-seeded Tar Heels (15-15), who snapped a nine-game losing streak. It was UNC's first win since beating Duke in overtime on Jan. 21.
North Carolina led by a dozen with about 4½ minutes left, then held off a push by BC that twice brought the Eagles within three points late. Bailey hit two free throws with 14 seconds left to help the Tar Heels hold on, sending them into Thursday's second round to face No. 23 North Carolina State.
Taylor Ortlepp scored 23 points and made seven 3-pointers for the 13th-seeded Eagles (7-23), who made 12 of 29 3s.

NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS
- Playing her first-ever ACC Tournament game in her hometown of Greensboro, UNC redshirt junior Paris Kea led all scorers with 28 points on 12-of-22 shooting from the floor. Kea went 4-for-5 from 3-point range in the first two quarters and had 20 points by the halftime break.
- Kea, a transfer from Vanderbilt, has now averaged 22 points in three ACC Tournament games. Kea scored 21 points in a first-round win over Pitt last year at Conway, S.C., and then added 17 in a second-round loss to Syracuse.
- BC sophomore Taylor Ortlepp scored a team-high 23 points on Wednesday, matching her total in the Eagles’ 74-67 regular-season victory over North Carolina at Chestnut Hill on Jan. 6.
- All seven of Ortlepp’s made field goals were 3-pointers, and the Eagles went 12-for-29 from beyond the arc as a team.
- ACC Freshman of the Year Janelle Bailey registered her 13
th double-double of the season with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Bailey accomplished the feat despite not scoring in the first half. The double-digit rebounding game was her third in a row and her sixth in the last seven games.
- UNC improved to 62-31 all-time in ACC Tournament play and to 5-2 in first-round games. The Tar Heels’ 62 wins are the most in the tournament’s history.
- Boston College is now 6-13 all-time in the ACC Tournament, 5-8 in first round games.
