ACC Draft Notes
Led by Duke’s Jayson Tatum, the third overall selection by the Boston Celtics, the ACC set an NCAA record with 10 first- round selections in the 2017 NBA Draft. The previous record for first-round picks by a conference was eight, set by the ACC in 1995 and the SEC in 2012.
 
With nine different schools having at least one player selected in the 2017 draft, the ACC now has had at least seven different schools with at least one player selected in each of the last four years and five times in the last eight years.
 
The ACC tied with the Pac-12 with 14 overall selections, followed by the Big 12 (6), Big Ten (4), SEC (4), American Athletic (3), Big East (3), West Coast (2) and the Horizon (1).
 
With its 10 first-round selections, the ACC is the only conference to have had at least four first round picks in each of the past nine NBA Drafts (2009-2017).
 
The ACC extended its streak of having at least one first-round selection to 29 consecutive years (1989-2017).
 
Over the last five years (2013-2017), the ACC leads all conferences with 30 first-round selections. The Pac-12 is second with 23, followed by the SEC (19), Big Ten (17), Big 12 (10) and the Big East (9).
 
The ACC accounted for 12 of the first 29 college players (41 percent) selected in the 2017 draft. Over the past 12 years (2006-17), the ACC has accounted for 20 percent (73 of 371) of the college players selected in the first round.
 
The ACC tied a league record with five lottery picks in the 2017 NBA Draft – Tatum, Florida State’s Jonathan Isaac, NC State Dennis Smith Jr., Duke’s Luke Kennard and Louisville’s Donovan Mitchell.
 
The ACC has had 19 lottery picks over the last eight years and since 1996 leads all conferences with 44 lottery selections. The Big 12 and SEC are tied for second with 35 each, followed by the Big East and Pac-12 (34 each) and the Big Ten (20).

The ACC and the Big Ten lead all conferences with 10 No. 1 overall picks each in the annual NBA Draft. Six different ACC schools have had at least one No. 1 overall selection.
 
Duke leads all ACC schools with three No. 1 picks. North Carolina and Maryland have each had two No. 1 overall picks, while NC State, Virginia and Wake Forest one each. Duke’s Art Heyman was the ACC’s first No. 1 overall pick when he was selected by the New York Knicks in the 1963 draft.
