NC State and Louisville Remain Undefeated; ACC Play Begins

No. 2 Irish Pounce on Pitt Early in 100-44 Win

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The No. 2 Notre Dame women's basketball team made an emphatic statement in its ACC opener, defeating Pittsburgh, 100-44, inside Purcell Pavilion on Thursday night. The Fighting Irish (13-1) defense recorded its best game of the year, posting new season lows in points allowed and opponent shooting percentage (.266).
 
Marina Mabrey, who exited the game after the third quarter, finished with a game high 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting, including a 4-for-9 performance from three-point range.
 
Furthermore, Thursday marked the second straight game in which a milestone was achieved after Jackie Young joined the 1,000 career point club, knocking in 16 points tonight. Young becomes the 40th member of the club, as all five starters now boast over 1,000 career points.

Louisville Holds Off UNC Rally to Remain Unbeaten

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Jazmine Jones scored 17 points and Kylee Shook recorded her second double-double of the season, as Louisville outlasted the Tar Heels of North Carolina, 73-66 in the ACC opener on Thursday night inside the KFC Yum! Center.

The third-ranked Cards improve to 13-0 on the year and 1-0 in ACC action, while the Tar Heels drop to 9-6 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

No. 9 Wolfpack Defeats Duke to Remain Perfect 

RALEIGH – The ninth-ranked and unbeaten NC State women's basketball team (14-0, 1-0 ACC) continued its perfect start to a season on Thursday night by defeating Duke 63-51 on Kay Yow Court inside James T. Valvano Arena at Reynolds Coliseum. The win tied NC State's best start in program history, a 14-0 mark set by the 1999-2000 team.

No. 14 Orange Win ACC Opener at Clemson

Clemson, S.C. – The 14th-ranked Orange women opened Atlantic Coast Conference play with an 84-75 win at Clemson (9-5) on Thursday night. It marked the sixth-straight win for Syracuse, which improves to 12-2 on the season. Miranda Drummond led the Orange with 23 points, while Gabrielle Cooper added 22 and put on a three-point clinic knocking down seven treys on 12 attempts.

Clutch Plays Delivers Florida State ACC-Opening Win

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (Seminoles.com) – John Paul Jones Arena has not been the easiest place for Florida State lately. Yet with one of the youngest and most inexperienced groups in the country, No. 23 Seminole Women’s Hoops rose up with a 63-61 win over Virginia on Thursday night in its ACC opener.

The Seminoles (13-1, 1-0) used an enormous 3-point field goal by freshman Kourtney Weber with 1:41 left to take a 61-59 lead, a lead that they would not give up. Despite UVA tying the game at 61-61 on a jumper from Dominique Toussaint, FSU re-gained the lead on a beautiful touch pass from Nicki Ekhomu to Valencia Myers down low, taking a 63-61 lead with 47 seconds left.

Miami Hands No. 25 Virginia Tech its First Loss, 68-61

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Just as it did two years ago, the University of Miami women's basketball team earned a victory over ranked and previously undefeated Virginia Tech.

Miami (13-3, 1-0 ACC) registered a 68-61 triumph over RV/No. 25 Virginia Tech (13-1, 0-1 ACC) Thursday afternoon at the Watsco Center, rallying from a nine-point third-quarter deficit to secure its 15th straight win over the Hokies.

Senior forward/center Emese Hof led the way for Miami in its ACC opener and first game of 2019, notching a game-high 23 points, while redshirt junior forward/center Beatrice Mompremier logged her 11th double-double of 2018-19.

Balogun Sparks Tech's Win Over Boston College, 81-76

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Elizabeth Balogun and Elizabeth Dixon combined for 30 points and 27 rebounds, and both finished with double-doubles as Georgia Tech defeated Boston College on the road, 81-76, to open ACC play Thursday night. Balogun collected her first collegiate double-double behind an astounding 18-point, 17-rebound performance, while classmate Dixon finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds. With the road victory, Tech improved to 11-3 overall and 1-0 in ACC play.
