Friday Night Recap:

NC State won seven medals on Friday night to extend their lead as the 2019 ACC Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship continued at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
 
With one day remaining in the championship, the Wolfpack sits in first with 919.5 points, followed by Louisville (784), Virginia (695), Florida State (572.5), Virginia Tech (545.5), Notre Dame (473), Duke (450), Pitt (371), Georgia Tech (360), North Carolina (282.5), Boston College (111), and Miami (101).
 
The Seminoles opened up the night by taking gold in the 100 butterfly, as senior Kanoa Kaleoaloha claimed the top spot in 44.93. Virginia senior Casey Brendan came from behind in the individual medley to win the event in 3:39.93.
 
Bartosz Piszczorowicz clocked in at 1:33.51 to win the 200 freestyle by 0.01, and Louisville’s Evgenii Somov defended his title in the 100 breaststroke. NC State’s Coleman Stewart set a new conference record and defended his title in the 100 backstroke.
 
The Wolfpack relay team of Coleman Stewart, Daniel Graber, Nyls Korstanje and Giovanni Izzo combined to set a new meet record in the 400 medley relay in Friday’s final event.
 
The 2019 ACC Swimming Championships resume Saturday morning at 10 a.m. with the preliminaries in the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, and the 200 butterfly. The finals for those events, in addition to the final heat of the 1650 freestyle and the 400 freestyle relay, begin at 6 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra.
 

400 Medley Relay:
The NC State relay team of Coleman Stewart, Daniel Graber, Nyls Korstanje and Giovanni Izzo finished off the night by taking gold in the 400 medley relay with a meet record of 3:03.26 to defend their title.
 
Louisville (3:03.75) and Virginia (3:05.14) rounded out the podium. All of the top four finishers (NC State, Louisville, Virginia, and Florida State with a 3:05.50) finished with NCAA automatic qualifying times.
 

100 Back:
NC State junior Coleman Steward set a new conference record and defended his title in the 100 back by clocking a 44.44.
 
Louisville sophomore Nicolas Albiero came in second with a time of 44.88. Both Stewart and Albiero finished in automatic NCAA qualifying times.
 
Virginia’s Joseph Clark claimed bronze with a time of 45.22.
 

100 Breast:
Louisville picked up another gold medal in the 100 breaststroke. Sophomore Evgenii Somov finished in 51.90 to defend his title in the event.
 
Georgia Tech’s Caio Pumputis claimed silver in 52.07, followed by Virginia sophomore Keefer Barnum in third (52.64).
 

200 Free:
Louisville freshman Bartosz Piszczorowicz took gold in the 200 freestyle in 1:33.51. Piszczorowicz edged out his teammate Zach Harting by 0.01 and became the first Cardinal to win the event in ACC history.
 
NC State senior Andreas Vazaios finished in a close third with a time of 1:33.72.
 

400 IM:
Virginia senior Casey Brendan took gold in the 400 Individual Medley with a time of 3:39.93. Brendan was the first Virginia swimmer to win this event since 2007.
 
NC State sophomore Eric Knowles came in second in 3:42.09, followed by Pitt’s Samy Helmbacher in third (3:42.30).
 

100 Butterfly:
Florida State’s Kanoa Kaleoaloha took the top spot in the 100 fly with a new pool record of 44.93.
 
A pair of NC State swimmers followed closely behind to claim silver and bronze. Junior Coleman Stewart finished in 45.09 and Senior Noah Hensley in 45.33.
 
Both Kaleoaloha and Steward finished with NCAA automatic qualifying times.
