GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) – Taylor Emery scored 26 points on 8-of-14 shooting and Regan Magarity had her 21st double-double of the season to help No. 10 seed Virginia Tech beat Wake Forest 85-63 on Wednesday in the first round of the ACC tournament.
Magarity finished with 22 points and 14 rebounds and Trinity Baptiste scored 12 with 15 boards for Virginia Tech, which also beat the Demon Deacons 69-57 in Sunday's regular-season finale. The Hokies (20-10) will play seventh-seeded Clemson in the second round Thursday.
Magarity scored nine points, including the first seven, in a 20-2 run over the final five-plus minutes of the first quarter to give Virginia Tech a 17-point lead and her layup with 7:21 left in the second made it 36-16. Wake Forest trailed by at least 22 points the rest of the way.
Alex Sharp had 18 points and 12 rebounds for No. 15 seed Wake Forest (10-20). The Demon Deacons finish the season on a 10-game losing streak.
The Hokies hit 11 of 27 (41 percent) from 3-point range and 18 of 21 (86 percent) from the free-throw line. Wake Forest made just 2 of 9 from behind the arc and 11 of 22 from the stripe.
