– Jocelyn Willoughby had her 10th double-double of the season and Dominique Toussaint added 11 points and eight assists to help No. 12 seed Virginia beat Boston College 77-61 on Wednesday in the first round of the ACC tournament.

Virginia will play fifth-seeded Syracuse in Thursday's second round.

Willoughby scored 25 of her career-high 29 points in the second half and finished with 13 rebounds. Toussaint, a junior who came in with 992 career points, became the 36th player in program history to top the 1,000-point plateau.

Boston College opened a 12-point lead when Sydney Lowery hit a 3-pointer early in the second half but the Eagles made just two of their next 12 shots and Willoughby scored 11 points in a 24-5 run that made it 49-42 with 57 seconds left in the third quarter. The Cavaliers (12-18) led the rest of the way and Willoughby, who finished 12 of 12 from the free-throw line, hit eight foul shots as Virginia scored 14 of the final 16 points.

Emma Guy had 18 points for No. 13 seed Boston College (14-16), which finished its season on a nine-games losing streak.

Virginia, which shot 53.8 percent (14 of 26) from the field in the second half, outscored the Eagles 26-3 from the stripe.

- Jocelyn Willoughby scored 13 of her game-high 29 points in the third quarter as the Cavaliers overcame a 12-point deficit with a 24-7 run in the final 7:16 of the period to take a 49-44 lead into the final 10 minutes … Boston College closed within three points (59-56) as late as the 4:20 mark, but Virginia finished strong.
- Willoughby has been Virginia’s leading scorer in nine of the last 10 games … She added a game-high 13 rebounds on Wednesday for her 10th double-double of the season and the 14th of her collegiate career … Willoughby has led Virginia in rebounding in seven of the last eight games.
- Virginia built an 11-0 lead in the first 3:50 of the game before Emma Guy’s layup put the Eagles on the board … Guy added three more first-quarter buckets to help Boston College scrap back to within 14-10 by the end of the period.
- Guy had 12 points at the halftime break, which found the Eagles ahead 29-23 after outscoring the Cavaliers 19-9 in the second quarter … Lisa Jablonowski paced Virginia’s first-half scoring with eight points.
- Wednesday’s outcome gives UVA a season sweep of two games versus Boston College … The Cavaliers posted a 79-77 overtime win in the regular-season meeting in Charlottesville on Feb. 7.
