McElroy brings over 25 years of experience as a leader in collegiate athletics administration
GREENSBORO, NC – Atlantic Coast Conference Commissioner John Swofford announced today that Mary McElroy has been selected to fill the position of Senior Associate Commissioner for Women’s Basketball.
“Mary is a proven leader who brings a wealth of experience to our league,” said ACC Commissioner John Swofford. “From her experience as a women’s basketball student-athlete at the U.S. Naval Academy to her leadership roles as an administrator, she has an impressive background in college athletics and is an excellent addition to the conference office staff. Mary will serve our student-athletes, coaches, schools and partners well, and I’m pleased to welcome her back to the ACC.”
“I am grateful to Commissioner Swofford for this opportunity,” said McElroy. “I look forward to working collaboratively with the outstanding ACC women’s basketball coaches, institutional administrators and conference office staff. My goal is to maintain the reputation and high standards of the ACC, and continue to build upon the past success of ACC Women's Basketball. In doing so, I hope to honor the two legends who preceded me, Bernadette McGlade and Nora Lynn Finch.“
McElroy’s responsibilities will consist of the management and oversight of ACC Women’s Basketball, including the annual women’s basketball tournament, regular-season conference scheduling, liaison work with the national and regional television networks and serving as the commissioner’s liaison to the league’s 15 women’s basketball programs.
