DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — CJ Van Eyk allowed just one hit over six innings and Florida State had 16 hits Friday night in an 11-0 victory over NC State in the Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Championship.
Van Eyk (9-3) struck out 11 before J.C. Flowers worked the final inning. Flowers and Drew Mendoza each contributed three hits and three RBIs for the Seminoles (36-21).
The game was shortened to seven innings.
The Wolfpack (42-16) had already clinched a berth in Saturday’s semifinals. NC State will play Georgia Tech with the winner facing Boston College or North Carolina in Sunday’s title game.
The Seminoles scored twice in the first on Mendoza’s RBI double and Flowers’ single. They added two runs in the third and fourth innings and then tacked on four more in the fifth.
Mike Salvatore and Robby Martin each drove in a pair of runs for Florida State, which is hoping to get a berth in the NCAA tournament as an at-large selection when the field is announced on Monday at noon.
FRIDAY GAME 3 NOTES
- Friday night marked the final ACC Baseball Championship appearance for Florida State veteran head coach Mike Martin … Martin, who plans to retire at the end of this season, was honored in a pregame ceremony and presented with a plaque … Martin has been part of 41 consecutive NCAA tournament teams with FSU (39 straight as head coach) and has led the Seminoles to 16 College World Series appearances … His 2,023 career wins are the most by any NCAA coach in any sport.
- NC State will now turn its attention to Saturday’s 5 p.m. ACC Championship semifinal versus second-seeded Georgia Tech (40-16) … The teams did not meet during the regular season … The Wolfpack is trying to reach the ACC Baseball Championship finals for the 14th time … The Wolfpack owns four ACC baseball titles under a tournament format (1973, ’74, ’75 and ’92) and five overall.
