TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – It took 30 minutes for the Florida State Seminoles to show how far they have come.

It took 30 more to show far they still have to go.

Playing in their first game under new offensive coordinator Kendal Briles, the Seminoles were absolutely electric in the first half, rolling to 31 points and striking for quick touchdowns of 75, 58 and 38 yards.

Then Boise State pulled the plug.

Thanks to two touchdowns from running back Robert Mahone and five field goals from kicker Eric Sachse, the Broncos scored 23 unanswered points to erase an 18-point FSU lead and escape with a stunning, 36-31 victory at Doak Campbell Stadium.

After stalling for much of the second half, the Seminoles had one last opportunity to reclaim the lead – with the ball at their 25-yard line with 2:25 to play.

And when James Blackman connected with Tre’ McKitty downfield on a fourth-and-four, it seemed the Seminoles might be in position for some late dramatics.

Instead, a holding penalty nullified the play, and an illegal formation flag on fourth-and-14 resulted in a turnover on downs.

From there, the Broncos took three knees and the game was over.

The Seminoles, 0-1 for the third consecutive season, will look to rebound at home next week against ULM (5 p.m., ACC Network). Boise State will play Marshall at home on Friday.

Florida State finished with 426 total yards but could muster only 68 yards and four first downs in the second half.

The Broncos, meanwhile, racked up 621 yards of offense, the most since Oregon had 639 in the 2014 Rose Bowl.

FSU quarterback James Blackman completed 23 of 33 passes for 327 yards and three touchdowns and did not throw an interception.

Cam Akers ran 15 times for 116 yards and a score, while Hamsah Nasirildeen led the FSU defense with 12 tackles and two forced-fumbles.
