Clemson, Louisville and Virginia Tech Earn Weekly Women's Soccer Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Clemson’s Maliah Morris and Louisville’s Emina Ekic have been selected as Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Soccer Co-Offensive Players of the Week, while Virginia Tech’s Mandy McGlynn has been named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week.

Morris scored the game winner in Clemson’s 1-0 upset against No. 7 South Carolina. She got a step on her defender, moving left-to-right across the field, before sending a shot into the back of the net from just outside the 18-yard box. It was Morris’ second goal of the season and first game winner.

The freshman from Germantown, Maryland, has helped the Tigers compile a 6-0-1 record, highlighted most recently by the win over the rival Gamecocks.

Ekic helped the Cardinals remain unbeaten on the year, scoring the game-winning goal against No. 9 Vanderbilt in Louisville's 1-0 overtime upset. Ekic also dished out two assists in Louisville's 5-2 win over Dayton last Thursday night, finishing the week with four total points.

With 26 seconds left in the first overtime against the Commodores, Ekic fired a shot to the lower left corner to give Louisville the sudden-death victory. The shot makes Ekic 3-of-3 on penalty kicks this season.

McGlynn continued her hot start to her senior season at Virginia Tech, registering her fifth and six shutouts for the 16th-ranked Hokies. The Jacksonville, Florida, native had two saves in each contest and helped VT finish the non-conference regular season slate a perfect 8-0, just the third 8-0 start in its history.

Overall, McGlynn faced a total of 17 shots, 10 after intermission against UNCW, including five corners and multiple free kicks from 25-35 yards out. She picked up her 36th and 37th victories as a Hokie and improved her record to 37-0-2 when Tech led any point in a match.

Last weekend, ACC teams earned three top-10 wins: Clemson defeated No. 7 South Carolina, Virginia defeated No. 8 Penn State and Louisville defeated No. 9 Vanderbilt. ACC play begins this weekend with each conference team in action.
