GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) - Pitt sophomore forward Amanda West has been named ACC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Duke senior defender Caitlin Cosme has been tabbed ACC Defensive Player of the Week.
West turned in a pair of stellar performances to lead the Panthers to a 2-0 week, as she tallied four goals and eight points. She scored the first goal in last Thursday’s 4-3 win against Boston College on a penalty kick and scored the first goal of the second half to knot the match at two apiece.
In Pitt’s 4-1 win against Navy on Sunday, West recorded a brace to become the program's all-time leader in career points with 54 despite playing in only her second season as a sophomore. The Burlington, Ontario, native also set the Panther’s single-season record for goals with her 11th and the sophomore season record for points (25) - also leading the nation in both categories.
In Duke's lone contest on the week, Cosme helped lead the Blue Devils to a 2-0 victory over Virginia Tech. She played the entire match, anchoring a back line that posted its second consecutive shutout and third of the season. Cosme and the Duke defense limited Virginia Tech to just two shots, and the Hokies did not have a shot on goal.
Hailing from New Hyde Park, New York, Cosme also registered Duke's first goal of the match, her first career game-winning goal as she connected on a penalty kick in the 67th minute.
ACC women’s soccer actions returns Thursday night with a full slate of conference matches, including a doubleheader on ACC Network and RSN. Boston College hosts No. 7 Duke at 4 p.m. on RSN, and second-ranked Florida State travels to Pitt at 6 p.m. on ACC Network to kick off the day’s games.
