GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Following a perfect week in conference action, Georgia Tech junior guard Lotta-Maj Lahtinen has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, and teammate Loyal McQueen is the ACC Freshman of the Week.
ACC women’s basketball weekly awards are voted on by the league’s Blue Ribbon Panel.
Lahtinen had an impressive week to lead Georgia Tech to a 2-0 start to ACC play. She set career-highs in scoring (27), field goals made (11), 3-point field goals made (5), assists (8) and steals (8) during the week. She nearly missed a pair of double-doubles, as she tallied eight steals and seven rebounds to go along with her career-best 27 points in the Yellow Jackets’ 86-68 win against Boston College last Wednesday.
Against Notre Dame on Sunday, the Helsinki, Finland, native posted a team-high 19 points and dished out eight assists in the 82-67 victory. Her eight steals against the Eagles are the most by an ACC player this season and the most for a Georgia Tech player since 2012.
Lahtinen helped the Yellow Jackets earn their first-ever victory against Notre Dame with her stellar performance. For the week, she was 18-of-31 from the floor, including 9-of-14 from 3-point land, with 13 assists, 11 steals and 10 rebounds.
McQueen has started all five games this season for Georgia Tech and has posted double-figure scoring in each. She averaged 12.0 points per game in the Yellow Jacket’s ACC wins this week. In the win over Boston College, the freshman guard recorded a pair of career bests with 13 points and five assists. McQueen helped Georgia Tech to its highest scoring output (86) in a conference game in second-year head coach Nell Fortner’s tenure.
On Sunday, the Florence, South Carolina, product and top-100 ESPN recruit helped the Yellow Jackets pick up their first-ever win at Notre Dame, contributing 11 points, including a 4-for-5 effort at the charity stripe.
ACC women’s basketball action returns Thursday with five conference games. Virginia Tech travels to Notre Dame for a 6 p.m. tip and North Carolina hosts No. 18/18 Syracuse at 8 p.m. with both on ACC Network, while Wake Forest and fourth-ranked NC State will square off at 7 p.m. on RSN.
