GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina senior center Janelle Bailey has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, and Clemson guard Gabby Elliott is the ACC Freshman of the Week.
ACC women’s basketball weekly awards are voted on by the league’s Blue Ribbon Panel.
Bailey averaged a double-double with 19.3 points and 11.0 rebounds per game to lead the Tar Heels to a pair of wins, highlighted by a victory against No. 18 Syracuse. She opened the week with 14 points and 13 rebounds against Miami, before scoring a season-high 25 points on 10-of-15 shooting in a 92-68 victory against the Orange.
The Charlotte, North Carolina, native tallied 19 points and 12 rebounds in a 77-74 overtime win over Wake Forest on Sunday. For the week, Bailey shot 23-of-39 from the floor, connecting on 12-of-16 free throws with 33 rebounds and five assists.
Elliott led Clemson in scoring in wins against Florida State and Notre Dame, as the Tigers claimed their first-ever home victory against the Fighting Irish. She scored 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting to lift Clemson to the 72-69 win versus the Seminoles last Thursday.
A native of Detroit and top-100 ESPN recruit, Elliott had 17 points, four rebounds and two assists on Sunday against Notre Dame. The freshman guard averaged 18.0 points and shot 14-of-27 from the floor during the week.
