GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Duke sophomore midfielder Owen Caputo claimed ACC Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Virginia junior defenseman Kyle Kology earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week laurels.
A native of Apex, North Carolina, Caputo had a career day with three goals and three assists for six points to lead Duke to a big road win at then-No. 8 Denver, 15-13. The hat trick was the first of Caputo's career as he netted two first-half goals and then iced the victory late in the fourth quarter. He tied his career best with three assists. He currently leads the team with 12 points from five goals and seven assists.
As Virginia’s close defender, Kology was key in helping limit Lehigh's potent offense under 10 goals Saturday in a 12-9 victory over the No. 18 Mountain Hawks. A native of Chatham, New Jersey, Kology recorded career highs with seven ground balls and five caused turnovers. He intercepted two passes in front of the crease, thwarting potential scoring opportunities for Lehigh. His ground balls and caused turnovers also helped to create multiple fast breaks that led to UVA goals.
ACC men’s lacrosse continues this weekend with all five teams in action, beginning at noon Saturday when No. 2 Virginia plays host to Princeton, with the match airing on ACCN.
