Notre Dame Sweeps Team Titles at ACC Fencing Championships

NOTRE DAME, Ind. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame won both the men’s and women’s team titles Sunday at the 2020 ACC Fencing Championships, held in the Fighting Irish’s home facility, the Castellan Family Fencing Center, in Notre Dame, Indiana.
 
Both squads captured their second straight ACC championship as well as their fifth in the last six years.

Notre Dame's Marcello Oliveras (men) and Miriam Grady (women) were named the Most Valuable Fencers at the ACC Championships.
 
The Fighting Irish rolled to convincing wins in the team competition on both the men’s and women’s sides. The men started the day by going 3-0 against Boston College (18-9), North Carolina (19-8) and Duke (16-11). The women then followed it up with three straight dominating victories over Boston College (19-8), North Carolina (22-5) and Duke (18-9).
 
Duke took second place in the men’s competition with a 2-1 record. North Carolina claimed runner-up honors on the women’s side with a 2-1 record.
 
ACC teams will participate in the NCAA Regional competition March 7 and 8. The NCAA Fencing Championships will be contested March 19-22 in Detroit, Michigan.
