GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – NC State junior guard Devon Daniels was named the ACC Player of the Week on Monday, while Miami guard Isaiah Wong earned Freshman of the Week honors for the second straight week.
ACC men’s basketball weekly honors are determined by a vote of a 15-member media panel and announced on Mondays throughout the regular season.
Daniels averaged 21.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals in his games against then-No. 6 Duke and then-No. 8 Florida State last week. The native of Battle Creek, Michigan, scored a career-high 25 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the Wolfpack’s 88-66 win over Duke on Wednesday as NC State recorded its biggest margin of victory over Duke since Jan. 7, 1978. It also marks the largest margin of defeat for Duke to an unranked opponent in the Mike Krzyzewski era. Daniels then racked up 18 points and nine rebounds in a 67-61 loss to Florida State on Saturday.
Wong averaged 19.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in the Hurricanes’ games at Virginia Tech and Notre Dame. A native of Piscataway, New Jersey, Wong racked up 27 points and 12 rebounds, both career highs, in the 102-95 triple-overtime win at Virginia Tech, becoming the first Miami freshman with a double-double since Bruce Brown in December 2016. He finished 14-of-14 at the free-throw line in the victory, tying the second-best single-game mark in program history. With Miami down seven in the closing minutes of regulation, he went on a personal 11-2 run, then hit game-tying jumpers in the final 17 seconds of both the first and second overtime sessions. He is the only Division I freshman in the last 10 seasons to record 25-plus points, 10-plus rebounds and 10-plus made free throws without a miss in a single game. Wong then tied for the team high with 12 points on Sunday at Notre Dame.
