GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Syracuse senior attackman Stephen Rehfuss earned ACC Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week laurels, while Duke graduate goalie Turner Uppgren claimed ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Rehfuss had a huge role in the top-ranked Orange’s 15-9 road win over Johns Hopkins. The native of Latham, New York, matched his career high with seven assists, including six in the first half, to help the Orange jump out to a 10-4 lead. He also caused a turnover that led directly to another score. In the end, he contributed to more than half of the Syracuse scoring.
Uppgren made a season-high 15 saves to help Duke to a 13-10 win at then-No. 11 Loyola. The graduate goalie from Stillwater, Minnesota, was outstanding in the first quarter, making six saves, as Duke built a 3-0 lead. He added three more in the second for nine in the opening 30 minutes, allowing the Blue Devils to open up an 8-1 lead at the half. His nine saves in the first half were more than he had in four of his outings this season, while the 15 were two more than his previous season high.
Syracuse remained No. 1 in the USILA and Inside Lacrosse polls this week, and each of the ACC’s five programs are ranked among the top 15 nationally. ACC play begins this week with No. 11 Virginia at No. 14 Notre Dame at 7 p.m. Thursday on ACC Network. Also this weekend, Syracuse travels to No. 8 Duke at noon Sunday in a game on ESPNU.
