Duke’s Jarvis, North Carolina’s Sabato Earn ACC Baseball Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina sophomore first baseman Aaron Sabato has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Player of the Week, while Duke junior Bryce Jarvis is the ACC Pitcher of the Week.
 
ACC baseball weekly honors are determined by a vote of a select media panel and announced on Mondays throughout the regular season.

Sabato turned in a stellar week at the plate, as he hit four home runs to take the team lead with five on the year and tie for fifth in the conference. He tallied seven RBI and registered a 1.133 slugging percentage.

Hailing from Rye Brook, New York, Sabato drew an astounding 11 walks last week to take over the conference lead with 19 on the year and tally a .615 on-base percentage. He put together his best performance of the week on Friday, as he was 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of home runs and three RBIs in North Carolina’s ACC opener against Notre Dame.

Jarvis worked 7.0 shutout innings to help 12th-ranked Duke to a 2-1 victory over No. 11 Florida State in Friday's series opener. Jarvis (3-1) was dominant once again for the Blue Devils, notching his third consecutive quality start. The junior right-hander allowed just one hit and one walk across his seven innings of work, while striking out 12 batters to pick up his third win of the season.

The Franklin, Tennessee, native carried a perfect game through 6.2 frames before allowing his first baserunner of the day, who reached on a strikeout wild pitch. The baserunner ended a span of 16.2 perfect innings at home for Jarvis. The right-hander has only allowed one run, seven hits and one walk across his three starts this season, totaling 23.0 innings of work with a 0.39 ERA.  

He earns the honor for the second time this season.
