GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – The ACC led all conferences with eight student-athletes selected in the 2020 Women’s National Basketball Association Draft, which was held Friday evening and broadcast live on ESPN.

It marked the second consecutive year that the ACC had more players chosen in the draft than any other conference, following a league-record 13 selections a season ago.
 
Virginia guard Jocelyn Willoughby was the first ACC player taken in the draft, as the East Orange, New Jersey, native was selected by the Phoenix Mercury with the 10th pick in the first round, before she was later traded to the New York Liberty. The 2019-20 ACC leader in scoring at 19.2 points per game, Willoughby is the 11th player in Cavaliers history to be drafted and the first since 2010.
 
Louisville guard Jazmine Jones was drafted with the 12th pick in the first round by the New York Liberty, as the Cardinals had a player taken in the first round for the second consecutive season and fourth time in program history.

The ACC has now had at least one first-round selection in each of the past 15 WNBA Drafts, the most of any conference. The next-longest streak by a peer conference is six.

Kylee Shook, teammate of Jones at Louisville, was also selected by the Liberty with the first pick of the second round and the 13th overall selection. New York then took Duke forward Leaonna Odom with the 15th pick.
 
Miami forward Beatrice Mompremier became the fourth ACC player taken as the 20th overall selection in the draft by the Los Angeles Sparks.

In the third round, the Atlanta Dream tabbed Clemson forward Kobi Thornton with the 27th pick. Duke’s Haley Gorecki and Florida State’s Kiah Gillespie were taken with consecutive selections by the Seattle Storm (31st overall pick) and the Chicago Sky (32nd pick), respectively.
 
The WNBA announced on April 3 that the 2020 training camp and regular season will be postponed as developments continue to emerge around the COVID-19 pandemic. The league continues scenario-planning for new start dates and innovative formats.
