Notre Dame Sweeps First ACC Men’s Soccer Weekly Honors for 2020

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Notre Dame swept the initial ACC Men’s Soccer weekly honors for the 2020 season. Following a 1-0 victory to open the season over Kentucky last Thursday, Fighting Irish freshman Daniel Russo was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week, while senior goalkeeper Keagan McLaughlin was tabbed the ACC Defensive Player of the Week.

In his Notre Dame debut, Russo came off the bench and scored the game-winning goal in the 62nd minute off a header from the corner. The Jackson, New Jersey, native played 49 minutes in the match.

McLaughlin recorded a clean sheet in the season-opening triumph. The senior goalie made a career-high four saves and commanded the box with authority. A native of Zanesville, Ohio, McLaughlin has not allowed a goal in any of his five career appearances for the Irish.

ACC Men’s Soccer moves into its second week of play this week, with Duke traveling to Kentucky Monday evening. The first conference match is slated for Saturday evening as NC State travels to Duke.
