GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) - Clemson sophomore midfielder Caroline Conti has been named ACC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while junior goalkeeper and teammate Hensley Hancuff has been tabbed ACC Defensive Player of the Week.
It marks the first time the Tigers have swept the weekly honors since the conference began naming the ACC Defensive Player of the Week in 2015. It is also the first time a school has swept the weekly awards outright since Sept. 18, 2018, when North Carolina claimed both honors.
Conti helped Clemson open ACC play 2-0 thanks to a pair of 3-0 wins against Virginia Tech and Virginia. The Greenville, South Carolina, native scored three goals during the week with two versus the Hokies last Thursday and another against Virginia on Sunday.
The two goals in last Thursday’s game against Virginia Tech marked a career high. Conti also logged back-to-back game-winning goals, as she scored the first goal of each game and the Tigers shut out both opponents.
Hancuff charted a pair of solo shutouts in goal for the Tigers, as she recorded eight saves for the week. Hailing from Edmond, Oklahoma, she logged three saves against the Hokies and a season-high five in the win against Virginia.
It was the Tigers’ largest margin of victory against the Cavaliers since a 4-0 victory in 2001. Hancuff was the first goalkeeper to shut out the high-powered Virginia offense since Oct. 21, 2018.
ACC women’s soccer action returns Thursday afternoon, as Pitt travels to The Citadel for a 4 p.m. matchup. North Carolina battles Duke at 3:30 p.m. Sunday on ACC Network in the lone conference matchup of the week.
