GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – NC State sophomore forward Jada Boyd has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, and Notre Dame forward Maddy Westbeld is the ACC Freshman of the Week.
ACC women’s basketball weekly awards are voted on by the league’s Blue Ribbon Panel.
Boyd averaged 18.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game to lead the third-ranked Wolfpack to an 84-75 win at Georgia Tech on Thursday and a 76-57 home victory against Boston College on Sunday. She scored a career-high 26 points on 9-of-12 shooting versus the Yellow Jackets in just 23 minutes of action. Boyd also grabbed 10 rebounds to record her second double-double of the year.
The 26 points are a single-game high by an NC State player this season and fourth most by an ACC player in a conference game this year. In Sunday’s win against the Eagles, the Petersburg, Virginia, native scored 10 points with eight rebounds.
For the week, Boyd was 12-of-19 from the floor and 12-of-14 from the free-throw line.
Westbeld garnered ACC Freshman of the Week for the second time this season (Dec. 7) and becomes the first player to claim a conference weekly honor twice this year. The freshman led Notre Dame to a pair of wins, as the Fighting Irish earned a 71-60 road win at Miami and avoided the season sweep against Georgia Tech with a 69-67 victory on Sunday.
Hailing from Kettering, Ohio, Westbeld scored 15 points against the Hurricanes with six rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block. Against the Yellow Jackets, she had 11 points and four rebounds. She currently leads all freshmen in scoring, averaging 16.2 points per game.
