ACC Announces Swimming & Diving Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Louisville’s Arina Openysheva has been named the ACC Women’s Swimmer of the Week, while Florida State’s Samantha Vear has been selected as the Diver of the Week. On the men’s side, the Cardinals’ Daniel Sos has been named ACC Men’s Swimmer of the Week, and Florida State’s Jesco Helling has been selected as the Diver of the Week.
 
Openysheva and the Cardinals swam in the SMU Classic, finishing second to Michigan but ahead of Arizona, Miami, Missouri and SMU. The graduate student from Zelenogorsk, Russia, swam in the 100, 200 and 500 free and was part of the 200 and 800 free relays. Openysheva won the 200 and 500 free races and was part of the first-place 800 free relay team. The Cardinal swimmer recorded NCAA provisional times in the 100, 200 and 500 free events.
 
Vear, a sophomore from Conroe, Texas, helped Florida State win the TYR Classic. The Seminole diver placed in the top 10 in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events, finishing second on the 1-meter.
 
A graduate student from Budapest, Hungary, Sos helped Louisville to a second-place finish at the SMU Classic. The Cardinals outswam Arizona, Missouri, SMU and Texas A&M, but finished behind Michigan. Sos swam four events, winning the 200 and 400 IM as well as the 200 breast and posting NCAA provisional times in all three.
 
Helling, a sophomore from Dresden, Germany, had a solid showing for Florida State on the boards as the Seminoles placed first at the TYR Classic. The Seminole posted top-10 finishes on both the 1-meter and 3-meter, winning the 3-meter competition.
