GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Georgia Tech right side hitter Mariana Brambilla has been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, while North Carolina outside hitter Mabrey Shaffmaster has been named Freshman of the Week.
Brambilla spearheaded the Georgia Tech offense in road wins over Syracuse (3-1) and Boston College (3-0). The senior form Porto Alegre, Brazil, recorded 23 kills while hitting .341 and adding eight digs in the victory over Syracuse. Brambilla posted an additional 20 kills to go with another eight digs in the win over Boston College. On the week, the Yellow Jacket totaled 43 kills, 16 digs, three aces and three digs while hitting at a .307 clip and averaging 6.14 kills per set.
A rookie from New Castle, Indiana, Shaffmaster had a standout week for the Tar Heels. The UNC outside hitter helped her squad to home sweeps over NC State and Duke, racking up 32 kills, 14 digs and five blocks across the two matches. Shaffmaster’s week was highlighted by a double-double against the Wolfpack when she recorded 19 kills and 11 digs. The rookie averaged 4.57 kills on the week.
