GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Florida State junior middle blocker Emma Clothier has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, while North Carolina freshman outside hitter Mabrey Shaffmaster has been selected as the Freshman of the Week.
Clothier turned in an outstanding week, leading FSU to a pair of 3-1 wins over North Florida and Syracuse. She logged double-digit kills in both matches, tallying 12 kills with a .346 hitting percentage, seven blocks and three digs against the Ospreys on Tuesday. In the win against the Orange on Sunday, Clothier tallied a team-high 15 kills in addition to a .379 hitting percentage.
For the week, the Carrollton, Texas, native recorded 27 kills on 55 attempts, compiling a .364 hitting percentage with 10 blocks.
Shaffmaster recorded back-to-back double-digit kill matches in North Carolina's two road victories at Virginia Tech (3-1) and Virginia (3-0). She notched her seventh career double-double in the win over the Hokies with 12 kills and 20 digs. Shaffmaster contributed 14 kills, five digs and two aces against the Cavaliers.
Hailing from New Castle, Indiana, Shaffmaster now has 15 double-digit kill matches this season and leads all ACC freshmen with 324 kills. She earned ACC Freshman of the Week honors for the third time.
ACC volleyball action returns Friday afternoon with four matches, headlined by an ACC Network doubleheader featuring Boston College at Virginia Tech at 2 p.m. with No. 3 Pitt at No. 13 Georgia Tech to follow at 4 p.m.
For the second consecutive week, Louisville is the nation’s top-ranked team in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Poll. The Cardinals own a perfect 25-0 record and are the first ACC team to earn a No. 1 ranking in the history of the conference.
