GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Georgia Tech senior guard Michael Devoe has been selected the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, while Duke forward AJ Griffin was chosen as Freshman of the Week in the ACC’s weekly men’s basketball honors.
 
ACC men’s basketball weekly honors are determined by a vote of a 15-member media panel and announced on Mondays throughout the regular season.
 
A native of Orlando, Florida, Devoe averaged 24.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game last week as the Yellow Jackets defeated Lamar (75-66) and won at rival Georgia (88-78), which snapped Georgia Tech’s five-game losing streak in the series. Devoe scored a career-high 37 points against the Bulldogs, hitting 14-of-18 shots from the floor, 4-of-5 from 3-point range and 5-of-6 from the foul line. He scored nine of his points during a 17-5 run to finish the game, including two baskets that tied the game and gave the Jackets the lead for good. He also added seven rebounds and five assists.
 
Devoe recorded 11 points and six assists with seven rebounds earlier in the week to help Georgia Tech knock off Lamar. He currently leads the ACC in scoring (22.8 ppg), ranks third in assists (5.3) and is third in 3-point field goal percentage (.650).
 
Griffin averaged 11.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game in victories over Gardner-Webb (92-52) and Lafayette (88-55). The Ossining, New York, native shot 60% from the floor in those contests. Griffin came off the bench to record a career-high 18 points on 7-of-10 from the field, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range, in the Friday win over Lafayette. Fourteen of his 18 points came after halftime, including all four 3-pointers, as Duke pulled away to win by 33.
 
Griffin scored five points with a career-high six rebounds and two assists in the Tuesday win over Gardner-Webb. Griffin racked up four steals in two games last week after not logging a steal in the season’s first three games. He is Duke’s best 3-point shooter by percentage this season at 46.2% (6-of-13).
