Notre Dame’s Citron, Virginia Tech’s Kitley Earn ACC WBB Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) - Virginia Tech junior center Elizabeth Kitley has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, and Notre Dame guard Sonia Citron is the ACC Freshman of the Week. Both players collected the honors for the second consecutive week.

ACC women’s basketball weekly awards are voted on by the league’s Blue Ribbon Panel.

Kitley helped the 25th-ranked Hokies begin the season 5-0 for the sixth straight season, leading the squad in points, rebounds and blocks. She averaged 20.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and shot 66% from the floor for the week. She recorded her second double-double of the season with a 13-point, 13-rebound effort versus Coppin State.

Against Campbell on Saturday, the Preseason All-ACC selection scored a game-high 28 points on 12-of-17 shooting with seven rebounds and two assists. She now has three 20-point games to lead the conference and is the national leader in blocks with 18.

Citron turned in a pair of double-digit scoring performances to help Notre Dame remain unbeaten on the year at 5-0 with a 71-56 win over Fordham and a 94-35 victory against Bryant. She notched her first career double-double against the Rams with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Citron also collected three assists and a steal in the Fighting Irish’s first game of the week.

The Scarsdale, New York, native made her first collegiate start against Bryant and tallied 13 points with two steals and two assists.

ACC women’s basketball action resumes Monday night as Syracuse wraps up play in the Inaugural Bad Boy Mowers Women’s Battle 4 Atlantis against Buffalo. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. and it will be streamed live on FloHoops.
