GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – North Carolina grad student Kizhan Clarke and Virginia Tech junior Mekhi Lewis have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Wrestlers of the Week after each took down a top-six ranked Power 5 opponent.
Wrestling on the road at No. 10 Nebraska, Clarke scored a 3-1 sudden victory over the Cornhuskers’ fifth-ranked Chad Red Jr. at 141 points. Clarke, who entered the match ranked at No. 12, posted the highest ranked win of his career and his first ranked win since Dec. 29, 2019, when he defeated No. 15 Kanen Storr of Michigan while competing for American University.
Clarke added a 6-1 win over Shannon Hanna of Campbell on Sunday to move to 5-0 for the season and help the No. 14 Tar Heels to a 24-12 dual win.
Wrestling at Cassell Coliseum for the first time since an injury that sidelined him for much of last season, Virginia Tech’s Lewis topped sixth-ranked Ethan Smith of Ohio State, 6-4, in Friday night’s action at 174 pounds.
Lewis, ranked fourth in the weight class, followed up with a 21-6 technical fall win over Gardner-Webb’s Evan Schenk on Sunday, helping the No. 8 Hokies post their first dual win of the season by a 35-6 score.
