GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) - For the third time this season, Virginia Tech junior center Elizabeth Kitley is the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, and Notre Dame guard Sonia Citron is the ACC Freshman of the Week for the fourth time this year.
ACC women’s basketball weekly awards are voted on by the league’s Blue Ribbon Panel.
Kitley registered her fifth double-double of the season to lead the Hokies to a 92-75 victory at Florida State on Sunday in the ACC opener for both teams. She topped 30 points for the second time this season, pouring in 34 points to match her career high with 13 rebounds.
The Summerfield, North Carolina, native has scored 20 or more points in six games this season to lead the conference. Kitley was 13-of-19 from the floor against the Seminoles and 8-of-10 from the free throw line with four blocks and an assist. She leads the ACC in field-goal percentage, connecting on 59.2% of her shots.
Citron scored 15 points with eight rebounds on Sunday to lead Notre Dame to an 85-59 win against Pitt. The freshman was 5-of-12 from the floor and 3-of-7 from behind the arc. She also charted three assists and three steals, while pulling down three of her eight rebounds on the offensive end.
Her average of 12.3 points per game this season is the second best among true freshmen in the conference.
