GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) - Notre Dame graduate forward Maya Dodson has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, and Boston College center Maria Gakdeng is the ACC Freshman of the Week.
ACC women’s basketball weekly awards are voted on by the league’s Blue Ribbon Panel.
Dodson scored a career-high 28 points to lead the 17th-ranked Fighting Irish to a 91-86 win last Wednesday at DePaul, a team receiving votes for the top 25. She turned in a stellar second-half performance, scoring 20 of her points after the break.
The Alpharetta, Georgia, native dominated the fourth quarter, headlined by 10 consecutive points from the 4:46 mark until the final minute helping Notre Dame maintain the lead down the stretch. Dodson scored 12 of the Irish’s 19 points in the fourth quarter and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor.
Dodson finished the game with eight rebounds, including seven offensive boards.
Gakdeng led Boston College to its largest win of the season and most points in a game since the 2019-20 season with a 97-68 victory over Sacred Heart last Tuesday. She tallied career highs in points (17), field goals made (7), field-goal percentage (100), free throws (3-3), blocks (3) and tied her career best in assists (4).
Hailing from Lanham, Maryland, Gakdeng’s perfect 7-for-7 outing are the second-most made field goals by an ACC player without a miss this season. She is one of three true freshmen to post at least 15 points, five rebounds, three assists and three blocks in a game.
ACC women’s basketball teams return to action Thursday evening with a full slate of conference matchups, headlined by an ACC Network doubleheader featuring Syracuse at No. 24 North Carolina at 4 p.m. and No. 15 Duke visiting Virginia Tech at 7 p.m.
