GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Florida State swept the ACC men’s basketball weekly awards this week, as junior forward RaiQuan Gray was named the ACC Player of the Week, while guard Scottie Barnes picked up ACC Freshman of the Week honors for the second time this season. Barnes also earned the freshman distinction on Dec. 14.
ACC men’s basketball weekly honors are determined by a vote of a 15-member media panel and announced on Mondays throughout the regular season.
Gray scored 24 points and pulled down 12 rebounds – both career highs – in Florida State’s 92-85 overtime victory over Wake Forest on Saturday. He was 7-of-10 from the field and 10-of-10 from the free throw line. The native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, added four assists, three blocked shots and one steal while playing 37 minutes. He became just the fifth player in school history to finish perfect from the free throw line with at least 10 free throw attempts in an ACC game. In the final 4:35 of the second half, Gray scored six points as he helped the Seminoles recover from a three-point deficit with 1:30 remaining to play to tie the game and send it into overtime. He then scored the Seminoles’ first four points of the overtime period to lead FSU to the victory.
Barnes scored 13 points, pulled down four rebounds, totaled four assists and two steals and made the biggest basket of the game for the Seminoles versus Wake Forest – a reverse lay-up with less than a second remaining in the second half to send the contest into overtime. After scoring just two first-half points, the West Palm Beach, Florida, native scored 11 points after halftime, including five of FSU’s 12 points in the decisive overtime period as the Seminoles won their 23rd consecutive ACC home game. Barnes scored four of the Seminoles’ final five points of the second half beginning with a turnaround jump shot with 1:18 left in regulation to pull FSU to within one, 78-77. He then tied the game at 80 just before the buzzer on an end-to-end layup after a made Wake Forest free throw had given the Demon Deacons an 80-78 lead.
