GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – The following student-athletes have been selected as final Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Track and Field Performers of the Week of the 2021 season. ACC teams and student-athletes will now turn their attention to the 2021 ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships, which are scheduled for this Thursday-Saturday (Feb. 25-27) at Clemson.
Women’s Field Performer of the Week
Rachel Tanczos, Notre Dame, Sr.; Danielsville, Pa.
Tanczos won the weight throw a last week’s Lenny Lyles Invitational hosted by Louisville with a season-best distance of 22.64m (74-3.5) to move into first place in the ACC for the event and third in the country. The first-place finish was Tanczos’ seventh career victory in the weight throw. She added a first-place finish in the shot put with a winning mark of 15.35m (50-4.5).
Women’s Track Performer of the Week
Hannah Steelman, NC State, Jr.; Orono, Maine
Steelman posted the Wolfpack’s highest-finishing performance at the Camel City Invite, tabbing a 9:05.33 in the women’s elite 3000 meter. Her converted time of 9:00.70 leads the ACC and stands seventh in the nation. The 9:05.33 was a PR and put Steelman in the Wolfpack record book, checking in as the fourth-fastest time in program history.
Mens’ Field Performer of the Week
Greg Lauray, Pitt, Sr.; Nazareth, Pa.
Lauray had another strong weekend for the Panthers as he posted a second-place finish (first among collegiate participants) in the high jump at the Virginia Tech Challenge. After claiming back-to-back victories to open his 2021 indoor slate, Lauray had his best leap of the season as he cleared 7-1.5 (2.17m). His height is the best in the ACC this year and ranks 11th overall in the NCAA.
Men’s Track Performer of the Week
Virginia Tech DMR - Ben Fleming, Patrick Forrest, Bashir Mosavel-Lo, Antonio Lopez Segura
Competing in the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, the Virginia Tech’s men’s DMR team placed second in the event while posting the fastest time in the ACC this season. Their time of 9:30.73 ranks fifth in the country in addition to being the best in the conference.
