GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Miami junior forward Destiny Harden has been named the final Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week of the 2020-21 season, and North Carolina guard Deja Kelly is the ACC Freshman of the Week.
ACC women’s basketball weekly awards are voted on by the league’s Blue Ribbon Panel.
Harden averaged 18.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game while shooting 60 percent from the field to lead the Hurricanes to a pair of victories last week, including a 69-67 win against Wake Forest on Thursday and an 68-62 victory at Clemson on Sunday. The junior scored 15 points on 6-of-10 attempts and added five rebounds, two assists and a steal against the Demon Deacons.
She set a new career high with 21 points in the win against the Tigers while grabbing four rebounds and two steals. A native of Chicago, Illinois, Harden shot 15-of-25 from the floor, had nine total boards and was 5-of-6 from the charity stripe.
Kelly was key in the Tar Heels’ undefeated week, as North Carolina earned a 84-59 win against Georgia Tech on Thursday and a 68-63 road win at Virginia Tech on Sunday. The UNC rookie equaled her career high with 22 points against the Yellow Jackets while connecting on 7-of-13 shooting attempts. She added four assists, a steal, a block, a rebound and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
A native of San Antonio, Texas, Kelly added another 22 points in the victory over Virginia Tech while shooting 8-of-16 from the floor.
She shot 51.7% from the field, including 5-of-9 (55.6%) from behind the arc, on the week.
ACC women’s basketball action returns Wednesday at noon on RSN, as Boston College and Pitt go head-to-head in the lone first-round game of the 2021 ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament.
