Postgame Notes
#8 Syracuse 89, #9 NC State 68
Second Round - 2021 New York Life ACC Tournament
Greensboro, N.C

- Syracuse (16-8) moves on to face top-seeded Virginia (17-6) in Thursday’s noon quarterfinal game. The Cavaliers won 81-58 in the regular-season meeting between the teams at Charlottesville on Jan. 25.

- The Orange improved to 4-5 in the ACC Tournament and to 2-1 in games played in Greensboro. Following last year’s 81-53 second-round victory over North Carolina, Syracuse has won its last two tournament games here by an average margin of 24.5 points.

- Syracuse junior guard Buddy Boeheim led five Syracuse double-figure scorers with 27 points, including 20 in the first half points on 8-for-11 shooting from the floor. The 27 points tie for the second-most by a Syracuse player in an ACC Tournament game and narrowly trails the school-record 28 by Frank Howard versus Duke in the 2019 quarterfinals in Charlotte.

- Boeheim has scored at least 15 points in each of his four career ACC Tournament games. Wednesday marked his 16th double-figure scoring game of the season and the 54th of his career. Boeheim scored at least 20 points for eighth time this season and the 20th time in his career.

- Keyed by Boeheim’s 6-for-12 effort, Syracuse shot 14-of-29 from the floor on 3-point attempts (48.3%). The 14 made 3-pointers are a record for an ACC Tournament second-round game, topping the previous mark of 12 first set by Duke versus NC State in 2016, and then matched by Syracuse versus Pitt in 2019.

- The Orange shot 56.7% overall on Wednesday, just shy of the season best of 58.7% (vs. Boston College).

- Syracuse’s 89 points marked its high total in nine ACC Tournament games, topping the 81 points versus North Carolina last year.

- Wednesday outcome gave Syracuse a 3-0 mark versus the Wolfpack in 2020-21 after the Orange’s sweep of the regular-season series.

- NC State is 73-57 in the ACC Tournament, including a 27-25 record in Greensboro. The Wolfpack is 1-1 versus Syracuse in tourney play.

- The No. 8 seed now holds a 14-13 edge versus No. 9 in the ACC Tournament.

- The Wolfpack (13-10) was led in scoring by D.J. Funberburk, whose 14-point effort included a 10-for-12 showing from the foul line. The 10 made free throws were a season high.
