GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Syracuse junior midfielder Brendan Curry was named the ACC Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, and his teammate, faceoff specialist Jakob Phaup, claimed ACC Defensive Player of the Week laurels in the latest ACC weekly honors, announced Tuesday.
Curry had a career-high seven points and put up a career-high four assists in Syracuse’s 20-10 victory over No. 3 Virginia on Saturday. The Lutherville, Maryland, native initiated much of the Orange offense in the win. With Syracuse trailing 5-3 early, he scored or assisted on three of the Orange’s five second-quarter goals to put ‘Cuse up for good. He also collected a pair of ground balls in the win.
Phaup won 22-of-33 faceoffs (66.7%) against the Cavaliers and got the better of UVa’s Petey Lasalla, who entered the game ranked second nationally in faceoff win percentage. Lasalla was held to 11-of-30 on faceoffs. A native of Souderton, Pennsylvania, Phaup also picked up eight ground balls.
ACC teams hold half of the top 10 spots in the USILA poll again this week: No. 1 North Carolina, No. 2 Duke, No. 7 Syracuse, No. 8 Virginia and No. 9 Notre Dame.
