ACC Announces Field Hockey Performers of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Syracuse’s Pleun Lammers and Wake Forest’s Hannah Maxwell have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Offensive Players of the Week, while Boston College goalkeeper Emily Gillespie was recognized as ACC Defensive Player of the Week.

Lammers and Maxwell were each honored for the second time this season, while Gillespie earned her first ACC weekly honor.

The Orange’s Lammers scored the first goal in Saturday’s 2-1 road win over No. 14 Duke. Lammers was on the spot following a deflection off teammate Eefke van den Nieuwenhof's shot on a set play to put No. 9 Syracuse on the board in the 14th minute.

The Demon Deacons’ Maxwell had the most dramatic goal of her young career, lifting No. 11 Wake Forest to a 3-2 victory over No. 13 Virginia with her golden goal in overtime. Nearly three minutes into the overtime period, Maxwell raced down the left sideline and found her way into the scoring area. She went through the defender’s legs and fired the game winning shot past the Cavalier goalie. It marked the first game winner of the freshman's career and the fourth goal overall this season.

Gillespie went 2-0 in goal on the week with wins over Northeastern and No. 2 Louisville. The Simpsonville, Kentucky, native made four saves in last Saturday’s 1-0 shutout of the Cardinals, keying the Eagles to their first ACC win of the season and fourth straight victory overall.
