CLEMSON, S.C. (theACC.com) - Clemson downed Pitt, 2-0, Saturday evening at Historic Riggs Field in Clemson, South Carolina, in the ACC's Automatic Qualifier Match for the NCAA Tournament. The fourth-ranked Tigers (13-3-2) locked up their 33rd berth in the NCAA Tournament while extending their home unbeaten streak to 25 matches.
The selection show for the 36-team tournament is at Noon Monday on NCAA.com, with the NCAA Tournament beginning April 29 at sites across the state of North Carolina and culminating with the NCAA College Cup on May 14 and 17 in Cary, North Carolina.
Top-ranked Pitt (13-3-0) had its five-match win streak snapped. Two of the Panthers' three defeats this season have come at the hands of Clemson.
The Tigers scored first off a set piece in the 17th minute when Quinn McNeill took a loose ball in the ball and poked it past Pitt goalkeeper Nico Campuzano. Clemson added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute when Isaiah Reid's low strike beat Campuzano inside the near post.
Both teams took 11 shots, with Clemson putting six on goal while Pitt recorded three shots on goal.
