2021 All-ACC Women’s Lacrosse Team Announced

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference unveiled its 2021 All-ACC Women’s Lacrosse Team Tuesday. Syracuse led all schools with eight selections to the team, while North Carolina had six honorees, including a league-high five first-team picks. Boston College and Notre Dame each had five selections to the two-team, 32-member group.
 
The first team is highlighted by three of the top scoring student-athletes in league history, UNC senior attackers Katie Hoeg and Jamie Ortega and Boston College senior attacker Charlotte North. Hoeg ranks fourth in career points in ACC history (337) and holds the ACC career record in assists (209). Ortega is fifth in career points in league history (323) and fourth in career goals (244). North owns 226 career goals, which is fifth in ACC history.
 
Top-ranked North Carolina, which leads the nation in wins and takes an unblemished 15-0 record ino the ACC Women’s Lacrosse Championship this week, put five student-athletes on the first team, highlighted by three repeat honorees from 2019, Ortega, defender Emma Trenchard and goalie Taylor Moreno, who currently leads the nation in goals-against average (6.21) and ranks second in save percentage (.569).
 
Hoeg earned first-team honors for the second time in her career after claiming the distinction in 2018, while midfielder Ally Mastroianni earned first-team laurels for the first time.
 
Virginia Tech midfielder Paige Petty was named First-Team All-ACC for the third time in her career (2018, 2019). Boston College and Syracuse each put three on the first team. The ACC’s leading scorer this season at 4.43 goals per game, North earned first-team All-ACC honors for the first time after nabbing second-team distinction while playing at Duke in 2018 and 2019. North narrowly holds the ACC goal-scoring lead over Ortega (4.36 goals per game). A trio of Orange players made the first team in attackers Meaghan Tyrrell and Megan Carney and defender Sarah Cooper.
 
The All-ACC Teams were filled with experience. Of the 32 All-ACC honorees, 28 are upperclassmen, including 21 who are seniors or graduates.
 
The ACC also announced its first All-Freshman Team for women’s lacrosse. Boston College led all schools with three selections to the 12-member team. Also named First-Team All-ACC, BC midfielder Belle Smith was the lone player to earn spots on both the All-Freshman and All-ACC Teams.
 
The ACC Attacker, Midfielder, Defender, Freshman and Coach of the Year will be announced following the ACC Women’s Lacrosse Championship.
 
The 2021 ACC Women’s Lacrosse Championship will be contested Wednesday through Sunday at Dorrance Field in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The quarterfinals begin Wednesday with four matchups. No. 1 seed North Carolina opens the tournament at noon against No. 8 seed Louisville. No. 4 seed Notre Dame and No. 5 seed Duke follow at approximately 2:30 p.m. No. 2 seed Syracuse and No. 7 seed Virginia Tech are set to face off at 5 p.m., while No. 3 seed Boston College takes on No. 6 seed Virginia in the nightcap slated for 7:30 p.m.
 
The semifinals will take place on Friday at noon and 2:30 p.m., while the championship game will be played Sunday at noon. All seven games of the tournament will be televised on ACC Network.
 
All eight ACC teams are ranked in the latest IWLCA and Inside Lacrosse polls, most of any league. UNC leads the IWLCA poll at No. 1 and is followed by Syracuse (3), Boston College (4), Notre Dame (5), Duke (7), Virginia (11), Louisville (18) and Virginia Tech (24).
