All Three MAC Hermann Trophy Finalists from ACC

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (theACC.com) - All three women’s soccer finalists for the 2020-21 MAC Hermann Trophy are from the Atlantic Coast Conference, the United Soccer Coaches and the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) announced on Wednesday.

Florida State’s Malia Berkely and Jaelin Howell, along with North Carolina’s Brianna Pinto were tabbed finalists for the award.

It marks the 13th overall time and first since 2014 that an ACC student-athlete will win the honor presented annually to the best player in NCAA Division I soccer. Current ACC membership combines for 17 MAC Hermann Trophy honorees.

Pinto would be the 10th MAC Hermann Trophy selection from North Carolina, while Berkely or Howell would be the second to garner the accolade for the Seminoles.

All three players were tabbed First Team All-ACC selections following conference play in the fall with Berkely becoming the first player in conference history to claim consecutive ACC Defensive Player of the Year honors. Howell was named the ACC’s Midfielder of the Year.

The trio has helped lead their teams to the NCAA College Cup, as top-seeded Florida State will battle conference foe Virginia at 6 p.m. on Thursday night in Cary, North Carolina, at WakeMed Soccer Park. No. 2 North Carolina will take on No. 11 Santa Clara in a matchup slated to follow the first semifinal at 8:30 p.m. in Cary. Both matches will air live on ESPN2.

The MAC Hermann Trophy, the most coveted individual honor in NCAA Division I soccer, has been awarded annually since 1967. This year’s winners will be announced on May 27, 2021 at the MAC Hermann Trophy Banquet at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
